Through my studies in the NLGL program, my definition of comprehension has expanded. I previously viewed comprehension as the end result of reading, I now see that once we have understood and processed information in any form, it is then available for us to apply in endless ways. This view now has me seeing comprehension as the first step in an exciting process of learning and application.
Professional Development
A primary focus for me as a Coordinating Literacy Teacher is addressing the professional development needs of Special Education teachers of literacy. Therefore, I have more deeply explored the topics of androgogy, professional learning communities, and group facilitation to increase my effectiveness.
